FAQs

What does "Dhaga" mean and why choose thread over silver?

Dhaga refers to a sacred thread, typically made of red or yellow silk/cotton. The Siddha Mala on Dhaga is the most traditional, Vedically authentic form of this mala. The thread allows each bead's energy to flow freely and maintain direct skin contact throughout the day.

What does each bead in this mala represent?

Each of the 14 Mukhis governs a planet and deity: 1 Mukhi (Sun/Shiva), 2 Mukhi (Moon/Ardhanarishvara), 3 Mukhi (Mars/Agni), 4 Mukhi (Mercury/Brahma), 5 Mukhi (Jupiter/Kalagni Rudra), 6 Mukhi (Venus/Kartikeya), 7 Mukhi (Saturn/Mahalakshmi), 8 Mukhi (Rahu/Ganesha), 9 Mukhi (Ketu/Durga), 10–14 Mukhi representing Vishnu, Hanuman, and higher divine energies.

How do I energize and first wear this mala?

On a Monday morning, purify the Siddha Mala with Gangajal. Place at a Shiva lingam and chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times, followed by each bead's individual beej mantra if possible. Wear at chest level on the dhaga, keeping all beads in contact with skin. The mala may also be kept at the puja altar for household blessings when not being worn.

Can this mala be kept at the puja altar instead of worn?

Yes. As mentioned in the Shiva Purana, the Siddha Mala may be either worn continuously or kept at the worship altar. If kept at the altar, wear it briefly each day after bathing for at least a few minutes during meditation or prayer to maintain the energetic connection.
